Water and electrical efficiency

Sustainability is about less, not more. How can we use resources such as water and electricity efficiently and effectively? The relative abundance of electricity brought on by the solar revolution does not absolve us of the responsibility to consider our energy use. Clean water is a resource that is becoming more precious and scarce as populations grow around the globe. In this course, learn to save resources, pay attention to impact, and understand the chain of resource production and use.

The circular economy

The old model is an arrow, which too often points to nowhere. Resources are extracted and produced, briefly used, then discarded, ending up in landfills, oceans and natural environments. The new model is a circle: the same resources move through the circuit multiple times before being exhausted or discarded. Certain resources can even be used infinitely. This is not an impediment to prosperity, but a driver: this is why it is called The Circular Economy. Learn how eliminating waste, designing long-term, shifting to renewable energy, and regenerating natural ecosystems benefits individuals, businesses and society.

Water production

Water scarcity is a key concern of the future and the present. A fifth of the world’s people, over 1.2 billion, live within areas without enough water to meet demand. A further 1.6 billion people live with water scarcity due to economic constraints (International Water Management Institute).  This course looks at ways to sustainably source, produce and use water, with a vision of the future.

Biodegradability

Eco - driving

What if you could make your car more environmentally friendly, just be changing how you drive? This is the eco-driving principle: by shifting our driving behavior (without needing to change vehicles), we can save fuel, reduce emissions, increase safety for ourselves and other drivers, and improve the overall conditions of the road. By training employees in eco-driving, fuel costs can be reduced across-the-board (eco-driving can reduce fuel usage by up to 15%), company vehicles stay in better shape, and sustainability can become a part of every trip that’s taken.
